About the Course…
The main aim of the course is to provide programme managers and service
providers with the knowledge and skills to develop and analyse health
policies. The course is designed to be interactive, drawing extensively on
participants’ own skills, knowledge and experiences.
The course, developed by the Children’s Institute in 1998, has been well
received by 30 national and provincial Department of Health programme
managers trained to date. The course has recently been revised based on
inputs and suggestions from previous participants.
The objectives of the course are to:
- Provide participants with an understanding
of the policy-making process
- Enable participants to formulate policies
- Enable participants to analyse, implement,
monitor and evaluate health policies
- Enable participants to contribute to and
influence policy decisions
- Provide participants with an opportunity
to learn from one another
This is done through interactive and
practical sessions that address all phases of policy development,
appraisal, monitoring and evaluation.
A maximum of 20 people can be accommodated per training course. The course
is also offered on request to provincial departments or programmes.
The next course takes place on 5 – 7 October 2004. For further
